Onions: At the heart of the matter

Shrek once said that ogres are like onions...they both have layers. I say humans are also like onions. We have layers. Each layer is a important person or significant experience that have shaped our lives and made us who we are.
As time goes by we either gain layers or lose layers and some layers are more important than others. Our layers make up our psyche and protect what its at the core - our soul, our heart, our very being. This process of layer building/shedding impacts us tremendously, but none as much as losing a loved one. When a layer is gone you lose a part of you - your being changes. You are never the same.
In life we need to learn to cope with our alternating layer building and shedding process. Some days we relish in the sweet caramalised taste of being and some days we just cry.
Best,
TC
